Terminal Layout Changes

On Monday 14 August 2006, SCT completed another element of its yard redesign by moving the Empty Park from the western end of the terminal near berth 207 to a central location adjacent to the Reach Stacker area. The impact of the move will result in an overall reduction in the average distance travelled by the fleet of straddle carriers whilst loading empty 40’ containers.  The new layout will allow greater flexibility and rotation of empty containers.

Julian Walker, Head of Operations, SCT, said:

“By relocating the Empty Park adjacent to the Reach Stacker area we have increased the number of ground slots behind berth 207 by 1246 TEU, giving us greater capacity to hold import containers at the western end of the terminal.  This will further enhance the operational efficiencies generated over the last 18 months and continue our drive to improve both landside and shipside performance for all our customers.”
