Marwell Zoological Park has worked with the captive management of endangered species since its inception in 1972 and, as part of its annual donations to charities and other worthy causes, SCT decided to offer Marwell their support.
With this in mind, SCT ‘s Mike Gibbons handed
over a cheque for £1,000 towards the rebuilding of the Siamang Gibbon enclosure.
“Marwell Zoological Park is grateful to SCT for its efforts in raising funds to support a species that is in real trouble in the wild. Developing a new enclosure will provide our visitors with a greater understanding of how the species lives in the wild. For our gibbon family it will mean a larger area in which to play and interact,” explained Andy Lester, Development Officer of Marwell Zoological Park.
Siamang gibbons are noted for their acrobatic displays and loud calls. In the wild the gibbons use their calls to locate each other in the rain-forest canopy and hold territories. On a calm day the call can travel over 2km.
