As part of SCT’s drive to significantly improve its safety record an innovative new bonus scheme was formally agreed between the company and its employees.
The scheme covers members represented by SCT’s joint consultative committee and is based upon the principle of sharing the benefits of improved performance. The new scheme rewards employees for the performance of their own area of operation and specific measures include the lost time injury frequency rate (LTIFR) improvement, damage reduction, crane rates and equipment servicing, availability and reliability.
“The inclusion of the safety measure follows the target set by P&O Ports in each of its terminals worldwide to reduce the LTIFR by 20% over 2004. We are committed to provide a safe environment for our fellow workers and fully subscribe to the belief that all accidents are preventable” explains Patrick Walters, Managing Director.
All employees of SCT now have a safety component as part of their personal objectives for the year.
