Improved Haulier Services Levels

Graph shows the reduction in average vehicle turnaround time after the introduction of VBS and the new gate system.

In the latter half of 2004, a number of factors resulted in landside congestion at SCT. To improve landside performance in the same period in 2005, some major changes were required.

Following a period of analysis into the causes of the problems, a number of initiatives were developed and implemented during quarters two and three. The introduction of the new gate logic and vehicle booking system in June were a major part of this roll out.

The new system has allowed SCT to improve the predictability of truck arrivals; and therefore match the supply of machinery and labour to arrival patterns. This has allowed SCT to provide service levels that surpass customer expectations.

"SCT is extremely encouraged by the present performance of Simplified VBS, undoubtedly part of the success has been due to the haulage industry working with the system and using it as designed” said Julian Walker, Head of Operations.
