The team of employees from Southampton Container Terminals (SCT) who work at the Border Inspection Post (BIP) have achieved a record breaking 684 inspections / operational tasks during the month of October. The previous record was set back in June 2004 when 654 inspections / operational tasks were carried out.
Talking about the record, Paul Lloyd, BIP Supervisor, SCT, said:
“It is great news that we have been able to beat the record set back in June 2004. The number of inspections carried out at the BIP reflects just how busy the terminal is and in order to meet our customers' requirements, the BIP now operates seven days a week.”
The Border Inspection Post at Southampton Container Terminals (SCT) is a facility that provides an inspection area for the regulatory authorities who are required to carry out inspections on imported goods from outside the EU covering various regulations. SCT employees manage the facility and provide support to the authorities in locating and handling goods pre and post examination.
The primary user of the facility is Port Health, who carry out the inspection and examination of foodstuffs including products of animal origins for both human and non-human consumption. The facility is also used by DEFRA bodies such as Plant & Seed Health and the Horticultural Market Inspector.
