SCT handled a record number of boxes during the month of October.  Over 161,000 TEU passed across the quay breaking all previous monthly terminal records.

October was the first month to experience vessel calls from all six of the new services operated by member lines of the Grand Alliance.  As a consequence, landside operations saw a staggering 74,517 boxes arrive at the terminal via road and 12,757 boxes via rail, keeping both the hauliers and rail operators busy too.

On 11 October 2006, landside operations managed to break not one but three records previously set by the team.  A total of 2,149 lorries were handled in a 24 hour period.  During the same period, 1991 export containers as well as 612 empty containers were received at SCT.

Steve McCrindle, Landside Manager, SCT, said:

“October has been the busiest and most challenging month to date for all the team involved in the landside operations.  It is great news to hear that we have broken not one but three records and all on the same day!  My congratulations and thanks go to everyone involved.”
