A total of eight employees at Southampton Container Terminals (SCT) have succeeded in passing the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Level 2 Award in Food Safety. All of the employees work closely with Southampton City Council’s Port Health Service at SCT’s Border Inspection Post (BIP) and regularly handle food products.
The course involved several hours of training followed by a multiple choice exam covering topics such as temperature control, food safety hazards, the principles
of safe food storage and food premises and equipment.
Talking about the course, Jane Dawtry, Southampton City Council’s Port Health Service, said:
“The CIEH Level 2 Award in Food Safety qualification is designed for those people whose responsibilities include handling food. The role of the team at the BIP made them ideal candidates for the course.”
Talking about the success of his team, Paul Lloyd, BIP Supervisor, said:
“The course was extremely interesting and eye opening at times! The content was extremely relevant to the role that we play within the BIP. I’m delighted that everyone that took the course has passed and achieved the qualification. Well done to all.”
