Fundamentals of Terminal Operations (FTO) Course

Since the launch of the Fundamentals of Terminal Operations (FTO) Course over a year ago, over 130 employees of Southampton Container Terminals (SCT) have attended the course which is run by the DP World Institute.

The objective of the FTO course is to convey the importance of everyone’s contribution to areas of safety, team building, customer service, both landside and shipside operations and engineering with the ultimate goal of satisfying the terminal’s customers.

Talking about the course, Steve Ware, Training Manager, SCT, said:

“It’s great that we have been able to put so many of our employees on this course as it gives them a real appreciation for not just how the terminal physically operates but also covers other elements such as safety and customer service.  The FTO course isn’t like other training courses it’s actually delivered by members of the SCT management team as well as representatives from our customer base.  This enables the delegates to hear first-hand what is important to our customers.”

A spin off from the FTO course is the company’s coaching programme.  The majority of employees who have taken part in the FTO course are matched with a coach, who helps the delegate to develop both personally and professionally.
