SCT has introduced two new features to its Vehicle Booking System (VBS) to assist users of the terminal in the collection of import containers and utilisation of resources.
The first feature allows the user to input, via www.sct.uk.com/destinationcalculator.aspx, up to 10 import container numbers and then by clicking the ‘Find Transfer Area’ button, the user will be able to see which transfer area they are likely to be sent to, whether the container is bookable and the current tier position within the stack. Tier A is the ground position, Tier B the middle position and Tier C the top position.
The second feature allows the user to track, via www.sct.uk.com/transferareastatus.aspx, the current level of activity on each of the three transfer areas. A simple traffic light system shows the number of vehicles waiting for each area and works as follows:
0 to 10 vehicles = Green
11 to 20 vehicles = Amber
20 plus = Red
Talking about the changes to the VBS system, Julian Walker, Head of Operations, said:
“These new features provide users, needing to make multiple collections from the terminal, with the information to ensure that they direct vehicles to the quietest transfer area and most accessible box for collection at a given time. This allows users to maximize the use of the VBS slots that they have booked.”
