SCT Invests £750,000 in the Growth of Reefer Boxes

In 2006 SCT has seen the number of refrigerated (“reefer”) containers handled over the quay increase by 19% compared to 2005.  In 2006, the terminal handled 13,143 reefer boxes compared to 11,000 boxes in 2005.

This year, SCT looks set to see even more growth in reefer boxes.  During the month of January 2007, 1,733 reefer boxes were handled at SCT which highlights a huge increase of 97% compared to the number of boxes handled in January 2006.

In order to accommodate the growth in refrigerated containers SCT has committed over £750,000 in the construction of a new reefer gantry.  The gantry will be co-located with the existing gantries and provide space for 200 additional reefer boxes.

Talking about the growth, Patrick Walters, Managing Director, said:

“We are firmly committed to investing in terminal facilities in response to the needs of our customers and, as in this example, ahead of demand.  We have identified the reefer trade as one with great growth potential and we look forward to participating in that growth.”
