Information Kiosks provide information access for improved Health and Safety
As part of the programme of initiatives to improve Health and Safety and improve communications with all employees throughout the terminal, SCT has invested in five new touch screen information kiosks. Situated in restrooms and general areas the kiosks give those employees who do not normally have access to a PC a means to access Health and Safety training, information on the terminal’s performance and access to an Intranet Portal that utilises some of the latest collaborative technologies. The kiosks also provide a means by which all employees can have access to the Internet.
Utilising touch screen technology, the kiosks have a rugged keyboard and tracker ball, which allows for greater flexibility when using the kiosks.
The Fatal Five Area of the system focuses on “The Rules to Live By” for general safety while working on the terminal. The Kiosks provide information on the five main rules together with contact details on the nominated champions for each of the Fatal Five focus areas. In conjunction with the safety rules, the kiosks also provide employees access to key Health and Safety training videos, which they can review at their leisure.
During 2005 SCT set the target for reduction of the Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) of at least 20% on 2004. Last month the company was pleased to announce it had exceeded the target set by achieving a 40% reduction. It is envisaged that the kiosks will add to the efforts towards the achievement of the 2006 safety objective of a further 20% reduction by increasing the general awareness of all employees towards safety.
