Kate Maersk, after 8 years a welcome return to Southampton Container Terminal

Southampton Container Terminal, SCT, welcomed the return of Maersk Line on February 10th 2006. The 6,000 TEU Kate Maersk last called at Southampton on March 15th 1998, and after an absence of almost 8 years, has resumed a weekly call on Maersk Line’s Asia Europe 2 (AE2) service.
Following the purchase of P&O Nedlloyd by Maersk Line and the complex integration of two fleets into one, three Far East calls a week will be established through Southampton. The first calls of their AE9 and AE10 services will be inaugurated by the Maersk Dunedin and Maersk Gaerloch on the 5th and 15th March respectively.

Patrick Walters, SCT’s Managing Director said. “We have worked hard to deliver significant improvements in our service levels during 2005 which was a contributory factor in giving Maersk confidence in SCT to handle their business. We are pleased to welcome them back as a customer. “
