Over the last four months Southampton Container Terminals Ltd (SCT), has been undertaking essential civil works to accommodate two new super post-panamax cranes which are due to be operational in the second quarter of 2008.
It has been necessary to construct a new 35 metre gauge landside crane rail along 550 metres of 205 and 206 berths as well as strengthen the waterside rail.
All rail works have now been completed with both berth 205 and 206 back in full operation.
7 of the 10.5 additional acres, leased since September, are now in operation. Resurfacing works and the demolition of buildings on the remaining 3.5 acres are currently underway and due for completion by the end November.
