12 New Straddle Carriers

As part of the investment made towards improvements in service reliability and efficiency SCT have purchased 12 new straddle carriers, which will increase overall equipment availability and replace some of the now redundant fleet.

All the new straddle carriers are the latest generation, 50 ton twin-lift machines, from Noell which incorporate a caterpillar drive train with enhanced reliability and fuel efficiency to the latest Euro 3 emission standard.

Six of the new straddle carriers are capable of lifting 1 over a stack of 3 9’6’’ containers and shall be deployed to working on the landside services, working in conjunction with the new Simplified Vehicle Booking System to improve the service levels to hauliers visiting SCT. The remaining 6 new straddle carriers being 1 over 2 9’6” versions will be deployed to working shipside as we work to improve our crane rates, enabling us to offer a better service to our shipping line customers.
