New Simplified VBS at SCT

Lorries entering the Pregate

In the first week of June, at SCT, we introduced the new Simplified Vehicle Booking System as part of our overall development strategy for 2005.

The purpose of the new system is to provide the haulage industry with the fast and efficient level of service that is required, by allowing the haulier to plan and organise the movement of container cargo to and from the terminal.

The system was designed to also integrate with the changes made to the container yard, which includes the opening of a new transfer area and the relocation and enlargement of the empty container storage area and the reach stacker area.

The first 2 months of use have shown a marked reduction in turnaround times for hauliers visiting SCT.  This is achieved by the VBS collecting all the necessary information about the hauliers’ journey to the terminal, e.g. containers to be dropped and/or picked up, any special requirements and the planned arrival time.  All this information enables us at SCT to plan the equipment and staffing levels required to ensure that the haulier spends the minimum amount of time possible to complete the drop off and/or collection of containers.
