Southampton Container Terminals Ltd (SCT) continues to focus on its return to normalised operations following the crane 8 incident with eight gantry cranes (subject to planned routine maintenance) plus the mobile harbour crane currently operating. Landside operations are continuing to function as normal.
Works are ongoing on the other two gantry cranes and we expect to build up to nine gantry cranes plus the mobile harbour crane in early May with the tenth crane returning to service later in the summer.
Talking about the recovery, Campbell Mason, Managing Director, SCT, said:
“It has been a difficult start to the year with severe disruption following the crane 8 incident. However, I am pleased to report that during early May we are scheduled to have nine gantry cranes plus the mobile harbour crane operating on the terminal. We will continue to work closely with our contractors to ensure that our tenth crane returns to operations on schedule as soon as possible.
The investigation into the incident is well advanced but still ongoing and we await the final report of the independent investigator.”
