Southampton Container Terminals Ltd (SCT) Welcomes the Maiden Call of OOCL Southampton

Capt Chan receives a framed book with photographs of the city of SouthamptonOn Thursday 12 July 2007 OOCL Southampton and her 19 person crew arrived at the port of Southampton for the first time.  The vessel is deployed on the trade route between Asia and Europe (EU2) within the Grand Alliance and will be a regular caller at SCT.

Talking about this extra special maiden call to SCT, Campbell Mason, Managing Director, said:

“We are delighted to welcome the OOCL Southampton and her crew on her maiden voyage to Southampton. The Port of Southampton occupies a very proud place in British and world maritime history and will continue to have a very prominent role within the growing global container shipping industry. We are very pleased to see this reflected in OOCL’s choice of name for the vessel and we wish her and her crew many safe voyages to and from her ‘name port’ of Southampton.”

In a special visit onboard the OOCL Southampton, SCT presented Captain CM Chan with a traditional plaque and framed book of photographs of the city of Southampton.

The 8,063 TEU vessel with a gross tonnage of 89,097, an overall length of 323 metres and a speed of 25.2 knots was built in Korea by Samsung Heavy Industries and christened on 28 May 2007.
