Southampton Container Terminals (SCT) will be taking berth 205 from a depth of 12.8 metres to 14 metres which will enable the berth to handle deeper draught vessels.
The dredging works will be carried out by UK Dredging, a division of Associated British Ports, and will start in the spring. The works will be carried out around vessel servicing and are not expected to cause any significant operational disruption.
John Maybanks, Head of Engineering, SCT, said:
“It is important that the facilities at SCT are continually reviewed and enhanced to handle the deeper draught vessels. Increasing the depth of one of four main berths will keep SCT competitive and enable us to continue to meet the growing needs of our customers and their ever deeper vessels."
